Ahead of the PSY X International Conference, the Department of Professional Psychology, Bahria University Islamabad H-11 Campus, organized a pre-conference seminar exploring how environmental change influences human health, behavior, and mental well-being.
Centered around the theme "Human and Environment: The Complex Trajectory", the seminar brought together experts from psychology and environmental sciences to highlight climate change as an interdisciplinary challenge. The session was moderated by Dr. Huma Hassan, Assistant Professor, Department of Professional Psychology, who facilitated engaging discussions throughout the event.
Dr. Fiza Sarwar from the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences delivered the keynote address titled "Environmental Change: The Health Nexus", emphasizing the close relationship between environmental degradation and both physical and psychological health.
Ms. Javeria Asim followed with her presentation, "Climate Change and Its Mental Health Impacts: Barriers to Action", discussing research-based evidence on the psychological consequences of climate change and the challenges of translating awareness into meaningful action.
The concluding session was chaired by Dr. Ozma Ilyas of Forman Christian College University, who reflected on pro-environmental behavior, climate doomism, and the importance of fostering active hope.
The seminar concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Hina Ghafoor, Head of the Department, who emphasized continued collaboration between psychology and environmental sciences in addressing climate-related challenges through interdisciplinary research and practice.
